Finally - a new look!
We're hard at work finally, putting the new site look up, and making sure all the content is fresh and newly updated.  Please bear with us over the next week or two if you find something missing or a broken link or two.  We are working hard to get caught up so if something doesn't work right today, please check back tomorrow!

Some sections gone
If you're looking around for a few of the sections we had before, I'm sorry to say that some of them are just plain gone. I decided it was time to narrow the focus of the site a bit to make sure we can really do a good job of covering the things we kept around. We were getting a little thin before, trying to offer something for everyone. We've got a new sitemap here though, so you can see all the sections.
New Mona to Oquirrh Powerline Corridor
New Planned Power Transmission Line

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is currently in the early stages of planning and studying the setup of a new Power Line Corridor here in Utah. Rocky Mountain Power would like to be granted a right-of-way to install a new 500/345 kilovolt (kV) transmission line from the Mona Substation near Mona, Utah in Juab County, up to the Oquirrh Substation in West Jordan, Utah. The project would also include the siting of two new power substations and would result in an amendment to the BLM Salt Lake Field Office's Pony Express Resource Management Plan to establish utility corridors.

The potential corridor has been modified based on feedback from the public in meetings held in November of 2007, and the new corridor plans are scheduled to be published in April of 2009, along with the Draft Environmental Impact Study (DEIS). Once the new plans are made public, a further 90-day period will alllow for public review and comments.

The DEIS is meant to analyze the potential effects of this project on both environmental resources, and on the specific land uses listed below:

  • Biological resources
  • Floodplains and wetlands
  • Cultural or historic resources and tribal values
  • Human health and safety
  • Air, soil and water resources
  • Visual resources
  • Land use, including agricultural operations, recreation and transportation
  • Basically, this corridor will run from Mona, skirting the west edge of Utah Lake, working its way past Camp Williams and on up through the Salt Lake Valley to West Jordan. We're fairly confident that the powers that be have made enough progress that this corridor will wind up going through, but those of us who spend time on or around Utah Lake should take the time to review the plan and add our comments to the public input. If you don't say anything during the planning phase, you can't complain once a new high voltage power line runs through your favorite landscape.
